Mother and Baby Feeding. Mother gorillas share their meals with their babies, who also watch and sample anything they see their mothers eating. This sharing is quite amiable, and unlike some mammals we’ve observed, their meal sharing always seems quite polite.

Baby Eating. As a baby learns to feed on solids, he experiments—and like a human child, he’s likely to put anything in his mouth. This one soon discovered that the woody vine wasn’t very tasty.

Playing the Cello. A juvenile mountain gorilla hugs a bamboo shoot a nearby silverback has discarded, striking a pose that appears as if he’s playing a cello.
